What To Expect When Surfing In Santa Teresa, Costa Rica
Juliana Daniel Updated on Dec 23, 2022

Playa Santa Teresa and Playa Hermosa have been highlights of my time in Santa Teresa. To be sure, there are plenty of other options nearby. I could easily reach Playa Santa Teresa on foot at the Lapoint Surf Camp in Costa Rica.

One of my finest surf sessions ever was the one I did at sunset on my last night. Everything about the fading sun, the incredible turnout, and the picturesque palm palms was enchanted.

Santa Teresa Beach Surfing

Surfers of all skill levels would do well to visit Santa Teresa. The main beach, near several resorts, has waves appropriate for surfers of all skill levels. If you want to know what time of day is optimal for surfing in your area, ask a local surf shop or a group of surfers that live there.

Like other local beaches, Playa Santa Teresa is primarily sandy with a few scattered pebbles. You need to be aware of them when surfing near the coast, but they won't be an issue once you're out in the line-up.

Riding The Waves At Hermosa Beach

Playa Hermosa, located to the north of Santa Teresa, is a beautiful beach that often has fewer surfers than the other beaches in the area. Hibiscus and amapoles are just a few gorgeous flowers that line the gravel path down to the shore.

An excellent left-hand point break may be found at Playa Hermosa's northernmost tip. When the waves at Playa Santa Teresa are too dangerous for its clients, Lapoint Surf Camp sends them here.

The point break is excellent for novice surfers since it lasts a long time. Playa Hermosa is infamous for its rip current, which may reach considerable strength. Swimmers may find it challenging, but surfers are used to it.

La Lora And Suck Rock Surfing

There are some stunning white sand beaches in this area just north of Playa Santa Teresa. Surfers of all skill levels use these beaches, even though the waves may be rather formidable.

This is more justification for the occasional appearance of photographers, who capture incredible images of the world's top surfers. Kelly Slater, an internationally renowned surfer, has been known to visit Santa Teresa.

Sunset equestrian rides are also highly popular. The consistent waves and rock-free beach at La Lora make it an ideal location for surfing contests. It has been stated that weekly surf contests are going on while I am here and that people from all around Costa Rica come to see the fantastic surfers.

The Waves At Malpas

Malpas is a quieter surf location about 5 kilometers south of Santa Teresa. The waves here may be ideal for surfers of all skill levels. Playa Malpa's is less crowded than Santa Teresa's beaches since most surfers and surf camps come there to ride the waves.

Santa Teresa Beyond The Beach: Off-The-Beach Activities

Visit The City of Santa Teresa.

Just as you would at any other locale, you should familiarize yourself with your new hometown. Ditch the maps. For around four kilometers, Santa Teresa is served by a major road along the coast. The city is quite walkable. A bicycle may be rented from any number of local stores.

In contrast to San Jose, Santa Teresa is not a thriving metropolis. However, a wide variety of services and conveniences are available in town, from fast-food restaurants to grocery shops.

Numerous restaurants and cafés provide traditional Costa Rican sodas and other fares, including Italian, Japanese, and Israeli.

Witness The Sun Setting Over Santa Teresa

The sunset is a must-see for each vacationer. In particular when the scenery is breathtaking. The infinity pool at Vista de Olas Hotel, located in the hills of Mal Pais, about 10 minutes from Santa Teresa, is a great place to relax and take in the scenery.

Anyone can use the pool if they buy a couple of drinks, even if they aren't staying at the hotel. You can see the shoreline in all its glory from that vantage point. Since many people frequent it, the vibe is constantly exciting.

Do Yoga First Thing In The Morning

Do you do yoga, or have you ever considered trying it? There is no better way to calm the mind and unwind when on vacation. Yoga sessions are available at many lodging establishments and may even be complimentary.

Classes for all levels, including beginners, acro yoga, and yoga for couples, are available. You may also find yoga studios with beach or forest views if you prefer to stay in a hotel.
